This manual explains how to set up the Components of your Google Tag Manager: TAGS, TRIGGERS, and VARIABLES in order to connect all Convious data with your Google Analytics account. It's the easiest way to track and optimise your performance results. 

Before you begin...
Sign in to your Google Tag Manager account, and make sure the right Google Analytic account is implemented with GTM.  
 

CREATING TRIGGERS


STEP 1:  Select Triggers in the left-side menu:


 
Then, click on the NEW button (in the top right corner) to create a new trigger:


STEP 2:   Trigger name: convious e-commerce

           (A) name the trigger convious e-commerce

           (B)  then click on the round icon in the middle     

A menu will pop-up on the right side:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

         (C) select Custom Event trigger type from the list

 

 

STEP 3: Custom Event name: convious-order-v2 
(please disregard convious-order in the image below, it should be convious-order-v2)
 

Important: 

(A) give new event the exact name: convious-order-v2
and leave the rest of the fields and boxes as they are
(B) hit the SAVE button

Your trigger is created!
Should look like this: 

STEP 4: Create two additional triggers   

Following the same steps, create triggers: convious-event.


(4.a.)  add new trigger

(4.b.) name the trigger: convious-event

(4.c.)  choose trigger type: Custom Event

(4.d.)  name the event: convious-event 

(4.e.)  save

CREATING TAGS: 


STEP 1:  Start with selecting Tags in your left-side menu.

Then, click on the NEW button (in the top right corner) to create a new tag:

 

Or you can also create a New Tag directly from your Overview.
Your choice.


 

STEP 2:   Tag name: convious e-commerce

 

(A) name the tag convious e-commerce

(B)  then click on the Choose a tag type icon  

A menu will pop-up on the right side:

(C) select Universal Analytics tag type from the list

 

(D) select Transaction in the Track Type menu


(E) select your GA account in the Variables settings:

 

*If your GA account name doesn't appear in the list follow these steps:

  • click on the New Variable...
  • name the Variable: Google Analytics tracking ID
  • find your GA tracking ID in your GA dashboard (go to: Analytics accounts → Properties and Apps)
  • copy your tracking ID and paste it the Tracking ID field
  • save

 

STEP 3: Configure your tag

Tag configuration is as simple as connecting the convious e-commerce tag with the convious e-commerce trigger you created before: 

(A) Click on the icon in the middle of the screen: choose a trigger to make this tag fire…

 

(B)  Select the corresponding Convious e-commerce trigger

STEP 4: Create and configure Convious Event tag

Following the same steps, create the convious-event tag and connect it with its corresponding trigger:

 

(4.a.)  add New Tag in your Overview

(4.b.) name the Tag: Convious Event

(4.c.)  choose Tag type: Universal Analytics

(4.d.)  select Track Type: Event

(4.e.)  fill in the tracking parameters:
         


Category:             { { category-data-layer } }

Action:                  { { action-data-layer } }

Label:                    { { label-data-layer } }

Value:                         leave empty

Non Interaction Hit:       True


GA settings:   { { GoogleAnalytics tracking ID } }

 

 

(4.f.) click on the Choose a trigger... icon

(4.g.)  select the trigger: Convious Event

(4.h.) save

STEP 4: Create and configure Convious Pageview tag

If you need that Convious Checkout pageviews be logged to GA content section. You have to create 3 things in your GTM:

1. A Variable to extract page title as shown below.
a) Set the Variable Type to Data Layer Variable
b) Add a Data Layer Variable name 
c) Add the Data Layer Version 2

 

2. Variable to extract page path as shown below.
a) Set the Variable Type to Data Layer Variable
b) Add a Data Layer Variable name 
c) Add the Data Layer Version 2



3. A GTM TAG that uses these variables
a) Set the Tag Type to Universal analytics
b) Select Pageview as Track Type
c) Add your Google Analytics Tracking ID
d) Enable overriding settings in this tag
e) Open More Settings and set the fields:
Set the field name & value up as below & in accordance with your previously set up variables.

 
CREATING VARIABLES


STEP 1: To create your first variable, on the left side menu, click on “variables”. Then hit the “NEW” button on the right. 

 

STEP 2: Connect the variable with the Event tag you created before. You will have to create a new variable for each of the event tags:

PREVIEW AND PUBLISH

Now it's time to double check everything and publish your tracking settings!

1. Click on the Preview button (top right corner). This will also debug your GA workspace.

 

2. Click on the Submit button 

3. Add a name and description
    (Convious e-commerce tracking)

 4. Click on the PUBLISH button

 

Great! Your e-commerce tracking is all set!

You can now see all Convious transactions and events in your Google Analytics dashboard!
